WebMar 1, 2011 · If you have to use squadron putty get the white. It has better sanding properties than the green. Both are solvent based. You can use lacquer thinner to thin it out and 're-vitalize' it if it dries out too much during application. I use metal paint spatulas to apply the putty where it need it. Always remove as much excess as possible.

I did buy a tube of Tamiya White Putty and they seem to have improved that. So it is good too. I am less happy with Squadron White putty. I prefer their old Green putty, but the Tamiya is better than either. Gunze Mr. White Putty is also very good.

As you have observed it doesn't adhere well, and you'll find out later that it shrinks over a period of months/years after you have finished over it. I use 3M Acryl Blue which is an autobody glazing putty. It shrinks, but not as much as Squadron Green and it sands much nicer. If you're talking about the 'glazing putty' then it's OK to use for 'thin' putty jobs. It's very similar to squadron green or white putty. I use it all the time and it dries really quick. Don't use it for anywhere you need to build-up filler though, because it will shrink over time. optical transformer
